The SpaceX Falcon Heavy, also known as the BFR which stands for "Big F**ing Rocket, successfully launched into space today, to the excited cheers of engineers and scientists. The BFR is the most powerful operational rocket in the world. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, has ever delivered a comparable payload into orbit. With a total of 27 Merlin engines, Falcon Heavy is capable of 5 million pounds of thrust. Three cores made up the first stage of Falcon Heavy's test launch. The duo side cores, or boosters flanking the center core, returned to earth in perfect unison, landing on target in a dazzling display of technical prowess. SpaceX CEO/Lead Designer Elon Musk made the mission personal, by changing out the usual steel or concrete block payload, for his own midnight-cherry Tesla Roadster, in honor of the red planet. There have also been numerous suggestions of a Bowie Book Club to tackle each of the 100 volumes. However, there was a problem with that particular openbookstoronto.com feature in that only 75% of the books were actually listed! For anybody planning on completing this epic voyage of discovery, we’ve listed every single one of the 100 books here (in no particular order) for your reference. Astronaut Chris Hadfield sings Space Oddity
I'm posting my favorite space clip, starring astronaut Chris Hadfield channeling David Bowie as he sings Bowie's iconoclastic song Space Oddity. Not only is Space Oddity an exquisite piece of music, framing Bowie's compassion and intrinsic sense of humanity, the song was also iconoclastic, capturing the emotional charge of a generation as we left planet Earth for the first time. Chris Hadfield has always had a great sense of showmanship, whether he's conducting experiments in space, visually illuminating physics, imparting wisdom through his amazing book An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, or singing a song that everyone secretly wanted to see performed in space! The man knows how to swagger, so as astronauts go, kind of a rock star. After attending the premiere of the film Gravity, Hadfield tweeted: “Good morning! Gravity was fun last night.
